MGs Invade Thornborough!
Posted by Sue Knowles on Nov 3, 2005, 13:37

As a fan of both The Two Brewers and MGs, I thought it would be a good idea to combine the two!

Val kindly agreed to provide one of her excellent buffets and Andy was quite happy to keep the beer flowing. The MG side of the equation thought it would be a great idea to take a trip through the leafy lanes of Buckinghamshire to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
A classic MG outside the Brewers

Philip and I therefore planned a suitable route from Hazlemere in the south of the county to Thornborough, managing to avoid Aylesbury and taking in the delightful villages in both the north and the south of Buckinghamshire.

Although the cars set off at minute intervals, I think they agreed to meet up in Nash so that they could all converge on Thornborough at the same time. A game of musical parking then took place with every parking space around the green taken up by an MG – two even braved the kerb and parked their cars on the grass – I don’t think they left their exhausts behind!

It was then time to relax over a pint or two (orange juice for the drivers!) and enjoy the excellent spread set out in the marquee. They couldn’t believe their luck – a great salad lunch and strawberries to follow – you don’t get value like that in Hazlemere!

Old and new - it's all the same for the enthusiast!
Suitably refreshed the cars started to drift away – some to visit local National Trust properties, some to make a pilgrimage to Silverstone and some to undertake some retail therapy in Milton Keynes.

Following the visit I received some great compliments both on the pub and the village – indeed one couple asked me to get them a local paper as they are now thinking of moving up here – praise indeed!

Once again, our thanks to Val and Andy for their great hospitality and apologies for the roar of twenty MG engines on a quiet Sunday afternoon!
